Myra Mitchell

Myra Mitchell was born and raised in Melbourne, she has been living in Perth since 1987, she started painting after designing and making jewellery, which started her on the creative journey. She paints both abstract and semi abstract pieces. Her style is contemporary and her medium is mixed media and acrylic.

Myra’s art is characterized by a wide range of palettes, with earthy tones, pastels and vibrant colours. Since her travels to the Kimberley region of WA she has been influenced by the landscape and it’s colours. The artists Fred Williams, Tony Tuckson and Todd Hunter also have influenced her.

In 2017 she was a finalist in the ‘Ravenswood’ Australia’s Largest Art Prize for Women in NSW.

In 2017 and 2016 respectively, she won the Highly Commended Art Award and was the winner for the Local Artist Category in South Perth Emerging Artist Awards where the judges described her work as “a developed artistic language portrayed through the artist’s rich painterly style”.

She was the winner of the Mixed Media category at the City of Stirling Art Awards in 2015 with the judges commenting ‘bold applications of joyous brushstrokes layered on a rich surface’.

Myra is also represented at Margaret River Gallery where she recently had a group Exhibition.

Myra has exhibited widely; she has also held 6 Solo exhibitions.
