Jeana Castelli

I was born in the South West town of Donnybrook in 1950 to Italian
immigrants. My love of art and dance emerged when I was still only a
child. . My first love was ballet and dance and it’s movement and
passion has always been a great source of inspiration in my work as a
painter. In my youth I also loved to draw and paint and at school I excelled achieving excellent scores and winning a number of prizes. My Italian heritage has to a great degree influenced my use of colour and movement in my earlier figurative works. In 2004 my husband Vince and I moved from Perth to Bunbury to take up permanent residency, where I now have the privilege of painting on a full time basis. Art and the creative process of painting has always been an integral part of my life. I have participated in many exhibitions in Perth and here in the South West including three solo exhibitions since being in Bunbury in the last ten years. I have also been commissioned to do a number of works. In 2016 I was invited to show my work in the Sydney based national Art/Edit magazine winter issue and also invited to exhibit in the Agora Gallery Chelsea NY.

In the past I have focused on figurative, naïve and a more impressionist style of work. In the last three years I have changed direction to what may be considered more abstract realism. I continue to hone my skills and have found my passion lies in the Australian landscape. The Australian landscapes are a great source of inspiration with it’s ruggedness and richness of colour and serenity. The use of color has always been an important factor to me in expressing my impressions and insight into the Australian landscape. Recently I have begun exploring and experimenting with various techniques, a variety of mediums with the intention of creating different textures and outcomes . This gives me the freedom to create and look at the landscape from a new perspective and allows the viewer to find their own mystery in my work. I am working from my studio at home in Bunbury and continually strive to develop my skills, find new direction and inspiration.
