PICTURE FRAME GLASS IN PERTH

Gallery 360 carries a variety of UV protective picture frame glass and acrylic in both clear and non-glare options. For budget picture framing needs, we also feature similar glass options with lower UV protection.

Ultraviolet light is present in nearly all forms of light, including sunlight, incandescent light, fluorescent light, and halogen light. UV light exposure causes artwork to fade, yellow, and become brittle. Although UV protective products will slow such deterioration, it is still important to hang valuable art away from direct sources of ultraviolet light. Moreover, ultraviolet light is not the only source of fading. Conditions such as heat, pollution and humidity will affect the possible discolouration and fading of artwork. Artwork may also be discoloured and damaged by the use of poor quality framing materials.

Although ten choices in picture frame glazing protection may seem daunting, our designers will quickly guide you to the right choice based on your needs and budget. Here is more information about our picture frame glazing options:

TRU VUE MUSEUM FRAME GLASS AND MUSEUM ACRYLIC

Museum Glass and Optium Museum Acrylic are our premium picture frame glass options.

Nothing compares to Museum Glass and Museum Acrylic. They are the only glazing options with amazing clarity and 99% UV protection. They are anti-reflective and anti-static, they have less than 1% light reflection and over 97% light transmission. Tru Vue Museum quality picture frame glass and acrylic have a substrate of 2.5mm which is 130% the strength of 2mm glass. When you look at a picture framed with Museum glass or acrylic, you feel like you are looking at the picture without glazing; it is virtually invisible, making this our premium picture frame glass option available from our Perth store.

TRU VUE CONSERVATION CLEAR GLASS

Tru-Vue Conservation Clear Glass (UV Glass) filters 99% of damaging ultraviolet light. This is the picture frame glass you see on a lot of the original art in our gallery and is one of our top selling UV glass options. IT has the same UV protection as Museum glass but it is not Anti-Reflective.

TRU VUE CONSERVATION REFLECTION CONTROL (NON-GLARE PICTURE FRAME GLASS)

Tru Vue Conservation Reflection Control Glass (Non-glare UV Glass) has the same UV filtering quality as Conservation Clear glass, but has an etched surface to reduce glare. This surface softens the image with in a slight loss in clarity and colour intensity. We recommend this only for areas where the amount of reflection will be a big issue when viewing the framed work.

TRU VUE CONSERVATION CLEAR ACRYLIC (UV ACRYLIC)

Tru-Vue Conservation Clear Acrylic (UV Acrylic) filters 99% of damaging ultraviolet light and provides an extremely clear view of the image without the slight greenish tint that is inherent in regular glass. Like other acrylic products, it is ideal for shipping and installing oversize pieces of art.

Conservation Reflection Control (Non-Glare UV Acrylic) filters 99% of ultraviolet light and has an etched surface that is slightly less distorting than its picture frame glass equivalent.  IT has the same UV protection as Museum glass. We recommend this only for areas where the amount of reflection will be a big issue when viewing the framed work.

We use this product in many corporate installations where large windows produce glare, and we need an affordable acrylic product to reduce reflection.

ULTRAVUE GLASS

UltraVue® glass offers the same superior anti-reflective properties you’ve come to expect from Tru Vue picture frame glass. This high-quality, anti-reflective glass product provides 65% UV protection and is optically coated to create a nearly invisible finish. Similar to its other anti-reflective products, Tru Vue uses its proprietary coating process using Magnetron Sputtering technology, which deposits precisely controlled layers of highly energized metal oxides onto a 2mm, water-white substrate, to produce the UltraVue product.

The damaging effect of air pollution, paper degradation, sunlight, artificial lights and the acid by-products of the art’s own aging, can cause serious deterioration to art, prints, photographs and documents.

Whether your artwork or objects are sentimental family heirlooms or have investment value, our conservation experts will use the best picture frame glass materials and techniques that will actively protect and extend the life and beauty of your possession.

Conservation framing involves experts applying specialised knowledge, materials and techniques to ensure that if the artwork is removed from the frame in the future, it will not show any evidence that it was framed, thereby preserving its long term value.

WHAT TO THINK ABOUT WHEN CHOOSING YOUR PICTURE FRAME GLASS

The three most important elements of conservation framing are the mat board, the backing material, picture frame glass and acrylic glazing.

The picture frame glass or clear acrylic serves as a barrier between the artwork and the outside elements such as dust, moisture, curious observers and ultraviolet (UV) light. The energy in UV light can cause paper embrittlement, colour deterioration, loss of brightness and other damage. This damage is both cumulative and irreversible.

The glazing should not interfere, but enhance your artwork.

Our conservation team will assist you in choosing the most appropriate picture frame glass for your artwork, to summarise:

Regular clear glass used in everyday picture framing will protect the artwork from dust and pollution, but allows UV light and reflection to interfere with the art.

Conservation clear glass contains UV qualities that block 99% of damaging UV light, but does not have any anti reflection properties.

Choosing an anti-reflective conservation picture frame glass will allow approximately 97% light transmission into the artwork with less than 1% reflection with UV protection.

Museum quality glass blocks out 99% of UV light, whilst allowing 97% of light transmission to the art with less than 1% reflection. Museum quality glass is the ultimate option when framing with glass.

An alternative to glass is using clear acrylic. This is the option often used by museums and Public Galleries. Acrylic is lighter than glass when framing larger artworks, it does not break and has superior thermal qualities to glass. However it can scratch more easily than glass, so we weigh each option carefully before recommending a particular glazing option for your item. Acrylic is also available in museum standard UV versions. Gallery 360 regularly uses this for travelling exhibitions. We have had our glazing independently tested for UV qualities.
