Colour dominates Clare’s art practice which always reflects on her local environment and personal journey. “Expressing myself in colour comes naturally to me. My art combines an interest in the shifting effects of light and colour with an exploration of emotional experiences. It’s a combination of Impressionism and Abstract Expressionism.

Creative expression has been at the core of my personal journey.  Exploring who we are and processing our experiences is a life-long journey. Creativity is a way of integrating our experiences into our sense of self and for me this is aided by music and writing as well as art.

Aspects of my personal journey and experiences of my environment come together through the craft of painting to create beautiful moments for others to enjoy, just as they would a poem or song.”  – Clare McCarthy 2020
